South on the old railroad grade toward Carbondale, climbing gently the whole way with Mount Sopris ahead of you.
The last of the Rio Grande Trail into town, then an afternoon free. The altitude is real by now, and the pace reflects it.
The big optional day. Ride as far up the pass as you want and the van carries you the rest. Everyone regroups at the top.
North to the Yampa River Core Trail through town, and the hot springs that gave the place its name.
