Croatia: The Dalmatian Blue

Island-hopping the Adriatic by boat and bike

The ride

Eight days along the Dalmatian coast by bike and boat, with a boutique catamaran as your floating base. You sail overnight and wake somewhere new, ride that island's back roads and stone villages, then come back aboard to swim off the stern and eat a long lunch while the next island slides into view.

This is the small version of a trip the big operators run on cruise ships carrying dozens. Here it's just your group, one catamaran, and the quiet inland roads the day-boats never reach. Most days have a shorter and a longer option, e-bikes take the sting out of the climbs, and nothing you own ever leaves the boat.

The boat carries your bags, your bikes and you. There is no packing, no hotel changeover, and no morning where you wonder where your luggage went. You wake up somewhere new every day and the coffee is already on.

Day by day

Tap any day to open it.

Day 1Split+

Board the catamaran in Split's Roman harbor, meet the crew and the group, and sail out as the lights come on along the waterfront.

Day 2First island+

An easy warm-up ride to get the legs going, and the first swim stop of the week. Stone villages, olive groves, water warm enough to stay in.

Day 3Hvar+

Lavender fields and hill villages above a Venetian old town. One of the great Adriatic islands, ridden on the inland roads the day-boats never see.

Day 4Vis+

The far island, closed to outsiders for decades and all the better for it. Vineyards, hidden coves, and a military tunnel or two if you want them.

Day 5Korčula+

Ride the length of a vineyard island to its walled town, claimed for centuries as Marco Polo's birthplace, and eat well when you get there.

Day 6Pelješac+

The peninsula of big red wines and oyster bays, with vineyards running right down to the water and a climb worth the view at the top.

Day 7Toward Dubrovnik+

The last crossing and a final swim off the stern, then the city walls come into view from the water, which is the only way to arrive.

Day 8Dubrovnik+

Step ashore into the old city. The riding is done, the bags come off the boat, and the evening is yours inside the walls.
