Vermont: Green Mountain Thread

Covered bridges to Lake Champlain

The ride

Six days threading Vermont's Green Mountains, covered bridges, dirt roads and river valleys, ending on Lake Champlain. Home ground, ridden well.

This is home ground. Jayne grew up riding these dirt roads, and the route is built out of the ones worth the climb: river valleys, covered bridges, the gaps through the spine of the Green Mountains, and a finish out over the water on the Champlain causeway.

Highlights

CyclingGreen Mountain gaps

The climbs that make Vermont, ridden at a pace that lets you finish them.

CultureCovered bridges

More of them here than anywhere else in the country, and the route goes through several.

CyclingDirt road riding

Vermont has more unpaved road than paved, and the quiet ones are the good ones.

NatureMad River Valley

Long descents, working farms, and the White River running beside you.

CyclingChamplain causeway

A gravel spit running straight out into the lake to finish the week.

FoodVermont tables

Farm dinners, cheese from up the road, and cider that did not travel far.
