The Empire State Trail north from Albany, a week in the High Peaks, and a ferry across Lake Champlain to finish.

Day 1Albany+

Arrive in Albany and roll out along the Mohawk–Hudson bike path for a shakedown spin. Welcome dinner in the old warehouse district.

Day 2Up the Champlain Canalway+

North out of the capital on the towpath, past locks still worked by hand, through Saratoga's horse country to the Hudson's upper reaches.

Day 3Glens Falls to Lake George+

Into the foothills, then down to the lake. Afternoon steamboat cruise, and the evening is yours in the village.

Day 4Lake George to Ticonderoga+

Quiet east-shore roads all morning, with the water on your left the whole way. Fort Ticonderoga in the afternoon and the La Chute river walk.

Day 5Adirondack day, bikes rested+

Off the bikes. A guided hike into the High Peaks or a paddle among the islands of Lake George, then a farm dinner.

Along Champlain's shore through Crown Point, past its lighthouse and the ruins of two forts that changed hands more than once.

Day 7Westport to Plattsburgh+

North through Ausable Chasm, the sandstone gorge they call the Grand Canyon of the Adirondacks, and a shoreline finish.

Day 8Ferry to Vermont+

Cross Lake Champlain by ferry with the High Peaks behind you and the Green Mountains ahead. Farewell brunch on the Burlington waterfront.
